Coded Quotes

When you select a quote from the SPECTRUM's web based archive, the Coded Quotes encryption program will encode the quote with a simple substitution cipher. The subject of the quote will be displayed at the top of the screen and the encrypted quote directly below. (The archive list will disappear and a "SHOW ARCHIVE" button will appear at the right side of the subject line. Click this button to select a new quote.) You will notice that the encrypted quote is displayed both in the CODED QUOTE area and in the DECRYPTION area directly. These two areas are separated by a CHECK button.
Study the encrypted quote carefully. If you think you know the substitute for a particular cipher, enter your substitute next to the corresponding cipher in the SUBSTITUTION area. In the example below, the letter A was entered next to the cipher N.
When you have entered as many cipher substitutions as you want to test, click on the CHECK button in the middle of the screen to apply your decryption. If a cipher substitution is correct, it will turn white. If it is incorrect, it will turn red.
