HAWKINS

Well, Nancy, old Wife, we're far enough from Tennessee now. You're satisfied, my Wife?

MRS. HAWKINS

Any place that suits my Husband suits me, Si Hawkins. And the Children?

HAWKINS

(Interrupting her.)

Oh, the children will be better off. I've looked after them. Nancy, do you see these papers?

(Displaying papers)

Well, they're evidence that I've taken up seventy-five thousand acres of land in Tennessee. Took them up a month before we left. Think what an enormous fortune it will be some day—why enormous don't express it! Nancy, the word's too tame!

(Loud voice.)

I tell you, Nancy…

MRS. HAWKINS

For goodness sake, Si— Shh— Shh—

HAWKINS

(Taking her by the arm and leading her to the front.)

Shh— Shh— I want to tell you Nancy…
