MRS. HAWKINS
And so it is. I warrant you Si, I've kept still as long as ever I could, but things are getting worse and worse, and I don't know what in the world to do.
(Buries her face in her hands.)
HAWKINS
(Caressing her.)Poor child, don't you grieve so anymore. I am ashamed of myself! But you shan't suffer another day, not another day, I'll sell the land if I can find a purchaser, at any price .
MRS. HAWKINS
(Excitedly.)Would you sell it, Si?
HAWKINS
This instant!
MRS. HAWKINS
Oh! We're saved! I'll find the purchaser.
HAWKINS
Are you serious?
MRS. HAWKINS
Indeed I am!
HAWKINS
How can a man lose faith? When the darkest hour comes, Providence always comes with it. Quick, Nancy where is he?
MRS. HAWKINS
Waiting in the [other] room.
HAWKINS
He shan't wait long.
(Exit.)
