CLAY
(Aside.)

And bring on Cholera. I begin to feel it in my vitals now.

(Aloud.)

I'm glad you told me Colonel.

(In evident discomfort.)

[I—I—am] very grateful.

SELLERS

Have another glass of water, the more water you can drink, the more turnips you can eat.] The water absorbs the turnips. Give your appetite full swing, you'll feel like a fighting cock tomorrow.

CLAY
(Desponding and aside.)

(MESSENGER enters with a letter.)

[MESSENGER

(Hands him letter and exits.] SELLERS glances
at the superscription & rises with a flourish.)

SELLERS

MRS. SELLERS

Open it, [Colonel], open it.

SELLERS

Will you excuse me, Clay?

CLAY

Certainly Colonel.

SELLERS
(Opens letter [and reads].)

"Rejoice with me my friend, Providence has crowned our effort with success." What did I tell you? Splendid man is Dilworthy, would that our country had more statesmen like Dilworthy.
