SELLERS

(CLAY has become sick.)

What's the matter, Clay?

CLAY

I feel quite badly.

SELLERS

Do you want some more turnips?

CLAY

No thank you. Good day.

(Aside.)

I never had such a heart burn in all my life.

SELLERS

Take some more turnips, take some home with you.

CLAY

No thank you, Colonel. Good day.]

(CLAY starts towards door.)

SELLERS

Drop in again Clay, we always dine about one. Come in any time.

(Exit CLAY.)

Come Polly, let's go spread the welcome news, we're rich now. You shall have a bran new silk gown tomorrow. Give those turnips to the poor, [and damn] the plague.

(Exit MR. & MRS. SELLERS. LAURA enters.)
