Colonel Sellers
Act IV(Washington Room in Dilworthy's house, richly furnished.)
EMILY
[(Enters, elegantly dressed followed by
LAFAYETTE in full evening dress.)]Did you ever see anything like the way Laura's been sweeping things here in Washington?
(Sits.)
LAFAYETTE
Never [seen] anything like it! She's got half the town at her feet!
EMILY
My! And don't she shift her blandishments around! She just marches on any old iceberg of a Congressman and melts him right down with a smile or two.
LAFAYETTE
I don't believe there's another woman in the world that can do it [and do it as graceful.] She'll lobby that land bill of ours straight through both houses of Congress easy !
EMILY
And then we'll be rich! And won't I have a new dress three times a week!
LAFAYETTE
O, say six times a week!
EMILY
Well I will , and I'll marry and Admiral or a General, too .
LAFAYETTE
Well, how some people do change their minds about things. You for instance.
