LAURA
But we did not sell. Come Lafayette, we must [be off] to the House of Representatives, the fight has begun. Come Emily, I'll drop you at Senator Thompson's if you're going [to the reception, it is time you were going. Come.]
(Exit LAURA & EMILY.)
LAFAYETTE
What is the matter with that girl? She's as hard and as brilliant as a diamond these last two or three days. I don't like that Colonel Selby, he's too attentive altogether. I must speak to her.
(Exit LAFAYETTE. Enter UNCLE DANIE
followed by COLONEL SELLERS, bottle

(Holding up bottle & walking to front of stage.)Hic! I've found the lacking ingredient. The eye-water's a success. I tried it on one eye and I couldn't see for four or five hours—shows how strong it is.
